Fear ~ It's only a mindset

With so much uncertainty in life, wars, burglaries, home break-ins, and much more...we become fearful. Our society itself is a very anxious society, changing rapidly. It's hard to be calm and confident in the midst of troublesome and frightening times.

Fear is an uneasy feeling of dread or alarm, which makes us feel warned about something bad that might happen. When the Bible speaks of fear of the Lord, it isn't bad. A healthy reverence for the Lord is a good thing. We have no need to be afraid of GOD, but we respect Him highly and hold Him in a position where He is the one keeping us alive. Fear isn't necessarily bad, but when it is chronic in someone's life, it can be a difficult and trying circumstance that can overrule someone's life and control them.

The emotions that are linked with fear:

There are many other emotions that are rooted in fear, which is why it is important, that if you deal with more than one of those emotions, then you probably have a lot of fear to deal with in your life.

Realize first, before moving on here, that GOD has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, and of power, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

Why do people become afraid or fearful?

What does fear do to me?

Howto deal with Fear

  1. Acknowledge the fear. By first admitting it's a problem in your life, you can begin targeting it.
  2. Identify the source or its root. Ask yourself quite a few questions. Sometimes writing down the questions with answers can help you pinpoint the problem. Once you know the source, you can begin dealing with it.
  3. Shift your focus from your fears to GOD almighty. Look to GOD's Word for help in managing your fears and anxiety. Look below for scriptural aides to help you find the right verses.
  4. Rely on GOD's Word every time you fear anything. Isaiah 41:10 is one example, as it says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
  5. Lay your fear at GOD's feet. He will always keep His promise to protect you. Trust in Him to bring you help when you need it.

The Lord doesn't want us to fear. But, He understands the situations, so we're told in Hebrews 4:16, "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." While our minds can have disorder and trouble, GOD's Word brings order to our minds. Look to His Word at all times for help in the time of need.

Many people have ways of dealing with fear to help take their mind off of the fear...look at these examples:
